Things have changed over the years with Bluetooth or wireless technology has made life easier and more complicated. Bluetooth is when a short-range communications technology originally intended to replace the cables connecting portable and or fixed devices while maintaining high levels of security. Some of the great features of Bluetooth technology are strength, low power and semi low cost. The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for a wide range of devices to connect and communicate with each other simultaneously and handle both data and voice transmissions. This enables users to enjoy a variety of innovative solutions such as a hands-free headset for voice calls, printing and fax capabilities, and synchronizing PDA, laptop and mobile phone applications, just to name a few.
There are also many riders who ride two-up and would like to communicate differently than the quick shot to the ribs and yelling above road noise. Simple things like ?do you want to get a bite to eat?, ?bathroom break? and ?cop? are all things that can be easily miscommunicated and costly in the end. For many years only bikes with the expensive electronic communication systems installed on their bikes and wired directly to their helmets or the other option was a simple air tube system that worked fine until you reached a speed limit that stopped all communication.
The other types of wanted communication involve your GPS, your cell phone and connecting to your riding buddies on their bike. With the advances in wireless motorcycle communication over the expensive bike installed systems, the new systems are less expensive and have better capabilities. Companies like Cardo Scala Rider, ChatterBox and many more have Bluetooth systems that fit into the helmet and communicate with your GPS, phone, your music, your passenger and your buddies. I have had the opportunity to use several of the ChatterBox and Cardo Scala Rider systems over the years. The GPS, music and passenger /friend communication are great the phone communications if needed is nice but should probably wait until stopped in a safe place. We all know about the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving a car, and the same danger exists on a motorcycle. Even if you are not taking your hands of the handlebar to talk to someone over the mobile phone, your attention is greatly diminished and as the GPS says could cause injuy or death. The systems I have owned are the Chatterbox XBI, XBI2, X1 Slim and my current favorite the Cardo Scala Rider G9. All the systems have preformed beautifully and never let down or gave me any troubles. The options on the Cardo Scala Rider G9 are more in line with what I was looking for this time around. It?s ability to match up with all Cardo Scala Rider systems makes it more affordable for everyone to have a system that can communicate. I really liked the voice commands so there are no taking the hands off the handlebars to push a button for communicating.
