Winick Realty Group has arranged the $3.2 million sale of a 17,676-square-foot retail property at 80 Jamaica Ave. in Brooklyn. The ground floor retail has been home to a Citibank branch location since 1973 and the tenant will remain in place for the duration of its long-term lease. Ken Zakin, Hymie Dweck and Randall Liberman of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented the seller in the transaction. Zach Mishaan of Winick Realty represented the buyer.

Hands-on with Wikipad, the $500 Android gaming tablet (video)

The Wikipad is an anomaly. It's a 10.1-inch, $500 Android tablet aimed squarely at gamers -- an expensive portal to a platform many mobile game developers have abandoned due to piracy. It's got an IPS display with 1,280 x 800 resolution, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30 quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (at launch). So ... it's not quite as sharp in the graphics department as some other tablets on the market, nor is it as pretty as its main handheld gaming competition, the PlayStation Vita. On top of that, it's from an engineering firm that you've never heard of -- Wikipad is also the name of the business behind the tablet, and this is the company's first product launch. Oh, and did we mention that the main selling point is an attachable game controller that frames half the tablet in a mess of plastic buttons, joysticks, and speakers? And no, the controller won't be sold separately, nor will it work with any other tablet.

Defying all logic, however, the Wikipad feels like a surprisingly solid piece of equipment (regardless of the fact that the prototype model we used was hand-built). From the light but solid construction of the tablet's chassis, to its grippy molded rear -- which helps both for gripping the tablet without the controller attached and assists sound amplification when the device is laid down -- nothing about the device feels cheap. As a tablet, it's speedy and responsive. Apps load quickly and smoothly, and it's got extra loud speakers for gaming without headphones (or for David Guetta, as was demonstrated to us). The custom skin it was running felt a bit rough -- the apps get reorganized with a gaming focus and slapped onto a flippable cube, which caused some visual stuttering from pane to pane. Another feature of the custom OS is a special 3D game launcher, which includes sections for Nvidia's Tegra Zone, PlayStation Mobile games, GameStop-suggested titles, and Google Play. There are some less than exciting ad banners attached to this launcher, but they're easily ignorable. Though Gaikai is still working with the Wikipad post-Sony buyout, CEO James Bower told us the game streaming service won't be there at launch -- he's hoping it'll arrive by year's end, "but that's up to Sony."

FDA approves new treatment for advanced colorectal cancer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Stivarga (regorafenib) to treat patients with colorectal cancer that has progressed after treatment and spread to other parts of the body (metastatic).

Stivarga is a multi-kinase inhibitor that blocks several enzymes that promote cancer growth. The drug was reviewed under the FDA's priority review program that provides an expedited six-month review for drugs that offer major advances in treatment or that provide treatment when no adequate therapy exists.

Stivarga is being approved one month ahead of the product's prescription drug user fee goal date of Oct. 27, 2012, the date the agency was scheduled to complete review of the drug application.

"Stivarga is the latest colorectal cancer treatment to demonstrate an ability to extend patients' lives and is the second drug approved for patients with colorectal cancer in the past two months," said Richard Pazdur, M.D., director of the Office of Hematology and Oncology Products in FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and in women and the third leading cause of cancer death in men and in women in the United States. The National Institutes of Health estimates 143,460 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and 51,690 will die from the disease in 2012.

The safety and effectiveness of Stivarga were evaluated in a single clinical study of 760 patients with previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer. Patients were randomly assigned to receive Stivarga or placebo in addition to best supportive care (BSC), which includes treatments to help manage side effects and symptoms of cancer. Patients received treatment until their cancers progressed or side effects became unacceptable.

Study results showed patients treated with Stivarga plus BSC lived a median of 6.4 months compared to a median of five months in patients treated with placebo plus BSC. Results also showed patients treated with Stivarga plus BSC experienced a delay in tumor growth (progression-free survival) for a median of two months compared to a median of 1.7 months in patients receiving placebo plus BSC.

Stivarga is being approved with a Boxed Warning alerting patients and health care professionals that severe and fatal liver toxicity occurred in patients treated with Stivarga during clinical studies. The most common side effects reported in patients treated with Stivarga include weakness or fatigue, loss of appetite, hand-foot syndrome (also called palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia), diarrhea, mouth sores (mucositis), weight loss, infection, high blood pressure, and changes in voice volume or quality (dysphonia).

In August 2012, the FDA approved Zaltrap (ziv-aflibercept) for use in combination with a FOLFIRI (folinic acid, fluorouracil and irinotecan) chemotherapy regimen to treat adults with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Stivarga is marketed by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, based in Wayne, N.J. Zaltrap is marketed by Bridgewater, N.J.-based sanofi-aventis.

The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines and other biological products for human use, and medical devices. The agency also is responsible for the safety and security of our nation's food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, products that give off electronic radiation, and for regulating tobacco products.

Q. Haunted House or No Ghosts Allowed: Last year one of our neighbors was really ticked off about our Halloween decorations being too scary. We really do go for the more ghoulish decorating and have a lot of fun with it! What's Halloween without the fog machines, scary music (not loud), ghosts, and gruesome decor? The neighbors on either side of us have joined the fun and put up quite a display themselves. None of the decorations are over-the-top blood and guts, but the standard Halloween fare. The angry neighbors across the street have a 5-year-old daughter. They said she wouldn't sleep with the light off for a month after our "horrifying" decorations "scared the daylights" out of their little girl. They also said they hoped that we would refrain from the frightening decorations since we now knew they upset their daughter. They still will barely speak to any of us who decorated using anything "scary" to a 5-year-old. Prudie, the kids on our street are a wide variety of ages, with the vast majority of the kids being 8 or older. I have three boys ages 8, 10, and 12 who have a great time with the scary stuff. Is it insensitive for us to decorate with tombstones, scary witches, and skeletons? My boys and their friends next door are already planning new ideas for the Halloween display. Should I pull the plug on the fog machine and plan a super-duper Happy Halloween?

A: My daughter was still in her high chair having dinner when our first trick or treater?wearing a wolfman mask?came to the door, and my husband thought it would be great to bring him into the house and show our toddler. Naturally, hysterics ensued. Nonetheless she recovered and went on to be dressed as a witch and a skeleton during her elementary-school years and even asked to go back twice to the house of the people with the twitching plastic rat. Sure, your neighbor's daughter was scared, but being a parent means not expecting the world to bend to your child, but guiding your child through the world. If the parents have carried out this grudge for a year, I feel sorry that their little girl is missing lessons in humor and resilience. My suggestion is that before you start the decorating you go over and speak to the parents and say that you'd enjoy it if their daughter (and her parents) came over to help your sons decorate the house. Say that you think if she helps the big boys, and can see all this scary stuff is just things in boxes and not so scary after all, that she will really enjoy the festivities. If they shut the door in your face, tell your sons to skip their house when they go out for candy.

Dear Prudence: Excessive Family PDA

Q. Saving Worms: I'm engaged to my amazing, funny, smart, sexy girlfriend. There are so many things I love about her, but there's one thing that worries me a little. She's a really sensitive person and so she doesn't ever want to hurt any living thing, for any reason. She's a vegan (so am I, so that's not a problem), she belongs to a couple of animal rights organizations (which I think is great), and she won't harm even an insect. (I don't like trapping cockroaches and setting them free outside the apartment, but it makes her happy.) This weekend, it rained overnight, and as a result the streets were covered with worms in the morning. She wanted to go out and save as many as she could before the sun warmed up the road and baked them to death. She also insisted that I go with her, and when I said I'd rather sleep in, she got tears in her eyes and told me she couldn't believe I would just sleep in knowing that hundreds of living creatures suffered a horrible death. After a short lecture on Karma, I gave in and helped save the worms (which was totally gross). I love my fianc?e, and want to support the causes that are important to her, but how can I tell her that I find some of her behavior bizarre and over the top without causing a huge fight?

A: I'm no vegan, but I'm gratified to know I'm not the only worm-rescuer out there. I just can't stand to see them sizzling as they try to navigate a hot sidewalk, so I often bend down and place them on the grass. This deed is balanced out, however, by my smashing of the moths that make it into the house and the stomping on the ants in my kitchen. It could be that your fianc?e would be happy being a Jain. These people are so nonviolent they refuse to eat root vegetables because of the microorganisms they contain, and sweep a broom in front of them as they walk to avoid stepping on insects. In India such beliefs are a religion, but in the U.S. this behavior would be seen as madness. Being so exquisitely attuned to suffering down to the earthworm level means your fianc?e is going to go through life in a constant state of pain. I'm afraid she needs to toughen up and focus her efforts on a few things she can change. How you get her there will require some delicacy on your part. But first of all you need to draw your own boundaries. Say that you support her worm-rescue efforts, but next time it rains, you're sleeping in. Explain you are a vegan for health and moral reasons, but in order to get through life you can't make everything a cause. Before you get married think long and hard about spending your life with someone willing to fight for cockroach rights.

Q. How To Explain My Boob Job: In a few weeks, I'll be undergoing breast-augmentation surgery. I'm very excited about the operation, and can't wait to see the results. I am a bit unsure, however, if I should offer any sort of explanation about the major change in the size of my chest to my friends and co-workers. I'm currently a size A, and I'll be getting size D implants, so they are going to notice a difference. Do I just ignore it and pretend like nothing's different, or do I address the "elephant" in the room? If so, how on earth do I make that announcement?

A: Unless you work at Hooters, or a strip club, breast size is one of those things that is not on the approved list of water-cooler conversation. There will be some people who can't help themselves, "Jeez, Louise, you almost knocked me over with your new knockers." But while there is sure to be plenty of chatter about this behind your back, if not in front of your chest, you should just slap on one of those Mona Lisa smiles and change the subject. To fend off comments such as, "I wish every woman went on vacation the same place you did!," in advance of your departure you could also confide in the office gossip. You could tell her that you're finally getting the breast-augmentation surgery you've always wanted, but you're worried about what will happen when you return because you really, really don't want to talk about it. Before you go ahead, I'm going to urge you to rethink your plans. I get that you're unhappy being small-breasted and that there's a fix for that. But it just doesn't make sense to overreact to the tune of a D cup. Before you make this change permanent, get some gigantic falsies and spend a few weekends wearing them. Maybe you'll see that the attention they engender is not something you want to experience every day and that you'd be happier with a more modest expansion.

Apple releases software update for Apple TV second and third generations

Apple has been really busy the last few weeks and the Apple TV must have been feeling really left out seeing all Apple?s other iOS devices receiving shiny new upgrades to iOS 6. Thankfully Apple hasn?t been ignoring the Apple TV at all and has now released an update for the Apple TV second and third generations. The new update brings along some nice new features but it is not iOS 6. Instead Apple decided to go with iOS 5.1 but don?t be put off by that, Apple has included a whole host of new features as shown below.

1. Accept invitations for Shared Photo Streams, browse photos and comments, and receive notifications of new content.

2. Send audio content from Apple TV to AirPlay-enabled speakers and devices (including AirPort Express and other Apple TVs). Also includes the ability to require an onscreen code to use AirPlay with your Apple TV.

3. Save multiple iTunes accounts and switch quickly between them.

4. Search movie trailers. In the United States, see show times for local theaters.

5. New Cascade, Shrinking Tiles, and Sliding Panels screen savers.

6. Reorder icons on the second page by holding down the select button on the remote.

7. SDH support for the deaf and hard-of-hearing as well as improvements to viewing and selecting subtitles.

8. Support for setting up advanced network options using configuration profiles.

9. Includes general performance and stability improvements.

So next time you fire up your Apple TV second or third generation you should see an option to upgrade to iOS 5.1. Of course if you have your Apple TV jailbroken, give this one a miss for now until we hear that it can be jailbroken again.

The Minnesota Blogger Conference recap--in photos |

On Saturday, we held the third-annual Minnesota Blogger Conference at Allina Commons in Minneapolis. More than 200 bloggers showed up to learn and meet other bloggers from Minnesota.

We heard from people like Julio Ojeda-Zapata who talked about how to use Google+ as a blogging platform.

We heard from our keynote, Rick Kupchella, as he talked about the future of news media?and how bloggers fit in.

And, we heard from Mykl Roventine about plug-ins that can help your WordPress blog run a little more smoothly.

Of course, there were many other sessions and highlights?that?s just a taste. But, I thought I?d share with you my experience at the Conference in photos. See below.
